Chicago, IL, March 18, 2011 — Tokyo, Japan, March 18, 2011 – EAST Co., Ltd., a leading developer in Japanese language processing and electronic document solutions, today announced the availability of the Adobe Reader Mobile SDK (RMSDK) through a partnership with Chicago-based technology provider Datalogics, Inc.
The Adobe Reader Mobile SDK enables third-party developers to support PDF, EPUB and eBook display and content protection within their own devices and smartphone applications. Under the terms of the agreement, EAST Co. will provide direct licensing and support services in Japan for RMSDK as provided via Datalogics.

In addition to providing direct licensing and support services in Japan, EAST will offer customization, integration and localization services; and in the near future will provide support for the Japanese-specific text layout capabilities in the next version of EPUB, EPUB3.
The Adobe Reader Mobile SDK is a software developer kit for building EPUB and PDF document viewers on various mobile devices as well as PCs. Device developers can take advantage of a mobile-optimized software engine, designed to deliver high-performance, high-quality scalable document rendering across a wide range of resource-limited embedded devices. Adobe Reader Mobile technology maximizes compatibility with the latest specifications and interoperability with Adobe products, including Adobe Content Server 4 and Adobe Digital Editions.
RMSDK supports digital content copy-protected by Adobe Content Server 4. Hundreds of publishers, libraries, retailers and solution providers are distributing and managing eBooks using Adobe Content Server and secured with Adobe digital rights management (Adobe DRM). All of this content can be read by any viewer built using the RMSDK. Unsecured PDF and EPUB documents can also be read with an RMSDK-based viewer.
The Adobe Reader Mobile SDK is a C++ library. Six reference platforms, including makefiles and build tools, are included in the distribution: iOS, Android, Windows Mobile 6, Linux, Windows, and MacOS. Since it is provided as source code, developers can port RMSDK to other platforms as well.
The distribution also includes a test console, a verification application, and complete API documentation (in English).
