Adobe Content Server-compatible devices

Content managed by Adobe Content Server is compatible with hundreds of existing e-reading apps and devices, including the Sony® Reader™ devices, the Barnes & Noble NOOK™, Kobo eReader, and many more. This means that customers who own one of these devices can access and consume content from your e-bookstore - you don't have to create your own e-reading app.

In addition, your customers can simply download and install the free Adobe Digital Editions rich internet application to purchase, manage and read your content on their computer. All you have to do is set up your content.

Protect content for multiple platforms and channels

Adobe's enhanced digital rights management (DRM) technology provides extensive tools for controlling access to your content. You can:

  • enable content for purchase;
  • enable content for loan, expiring permissions after a specified length of time;
  • control print and copy functionality on your content
The permissions you set are enforced by any/all Adobe Content Server-compatible apps and devices, without requiring any additional work or configuration on your part.

EPUB and PDF file formats

Adobe Content Server supports both EPUB and PDF file formats. EPUB is the industry-standard XML-based format for eBook content. It is lightweight and optimized for low-power mobile devices. It supports text reflow, automatically reformatting content for optimal viewing on particular screen in use. It supports increases or decreases in font size for readability. And it supports all the capabilities of Adobe DRM for managing and securing content.

The PDF file format is also supported, along with all the functionality of Adobe DRM. Note however that PDF is by nature not a "reflowable" file format; rather, its focus is more on preserving page integrity. Therefore the user experience of reading PDF documents on different screen sizes will depend on the specific capabilities (e.g., zooming, scrolling, panning) and implementation of the particular device or app being used.
