Technical Details

Adobe PDF JobReady

The PDF JobReady toolkit consists of a client-side component and a server-side component. The client-side component:

  • generates the secure (encrypted) PDF;
  • provides client-side previewing;
  • captures job ticket information (JDF is supported); and
  • submits the job to the server.

The server-side component:

  • receives the secure PDF and job ticket;
  • decrypts the secure PDF, and
  • hands control off to the rest of the server-side application.

Client-side PDF generation is governed by a "joboptions" file, a set of configuration parameters embedded into the client which instruct PDF JobReady on how to create the PDF. The joboptions file is the same as that used in Adobe Distiller; joboptions files can be created using Distiller and used in PDF JobReady.

Also included in the PDF JobReady toolkit is a wizard-based installer, which can be used to build client application installers. Both InstallShield and MSI-based installers are currently supported.
