DL Queue

pager DL Queue is Datalogics job scheduling software that can be bundled with DL Pager and DL Composer. Its purpose is to distribute composition jobs across multiple Windows based computers, avoiding resource contention and handling failures.

A DL Queue setup has three components:

  • Clients - Computers from where requests originate
  • Schedulers - Job management and distribution computers
  • Targets - Computers that perform the composition

A Client to a Scheduler

When DL Pager or DL Composer is commanded to submit a composition job, the Client component submits an electronic request to the scheduler.

A Scheduler to a Target

Based on an electronic list of target computers, the job scheduler will submit composition jobs to available target computers or it will hold jobs until a target becomes available.

The Target to the Client

Once a target computer has finished composing a job, the electronic delivery of the job can be returned to the originating client computer or to a designated destination.

Administration of the Queue (adding computers, specifying which computer is the scheduler, etc) is accomplished via an intuitive GUI system.

You can add this power to your program or Website using the DL Queue programming interface, accessed through Visual Basic or VB Script. This language allows easy integration with Web servers running ASP. (Other programming languages can be used as long as they can make COM calls.)

The API also allows:

  • Getting a list of all pending jobs and their status
  • Pausing and stopping jobs
  • Setting a job's priority

DL Queue gives you all this and more:

  • Scalability: Any number of target computers can be simply added or removed as needed without changing the client software or taking down the Queue.
  • Reliability: If a target computer fails, the scheduling computer detects this and re-routes any jobs scheduled for composition on that computer to one of the remaining targets. Once the defunct target computer returns to operational status, jobs are automatically routed to it again. This all happens automatically without human intervention.
  • Simplicity: It's easy to write code to launch jobs, and code samples are provided. However, our consulting services group can also integrate the DL Queue client software to your Website or application for you.
