About the Adobe PDF Library

The Adobe PDF Library is an SDK which allows developers to quickly add reliable, robust PDF capabilities to their applications. Powerful client- and server-based PDF solutions can be built using the same core technology that Adobe uses to build Acrobat.

The toolkit provides:

Version 9 highlights

The latest version of the Adobe PDF Library enables the creation and processing of PDF 1.7 documents and includes several new features such as:

  • Ability to control thin line enhancements in a document during PDF rendering
  • Ability to set page level control of PDF documents while printing (Win 32 & 64)
  • Ability to use a custom defined CMap as the encoding for a font
  • Improved page thumbnail quality
  • Improved PostScript page independence
  • Smaller embedded FontFile2 streams for TrueType fonts resulting in smaller file size
  • Support for AES 256-bit encryption
  • Support for rendering and printing of Reference XObjects in PDF documents
  • Support for Unicode passwords
