Many of our customers were eagerly waiting for the release of the Adobe Digital Editions. Glad to tell you that it is finally here. You can download the software from Adobe’s webpage here: http://www.adobe.com/products/digital-editions/download.html
There are many new features and most noticeably, a new look to this version. My colleague, Vel, and I thought to point out a few things to help you get started with this new version.
Installing ADE is straightforward. The installer will install 2.0 as a different application from your previous installation of ADE. If you don’t want to have multiple versions installed, be sure to uninstall the previous versions from your system.
When ADE is first started (or started at the end of the installation), if there are any previous ADE installations along with content on the computer, it will ask you whether to transfer your existing content or not.
If you select the “MIGRATE DATA” option, ADE will automatically pick up any books contained in the older version; otherwise, you can manually transfer the books later. Your existing content will not be deleted. The user content is stored under C:Users\DocumentsMy Digital Editions, and /Users//Documents/Digital Editions on Mac.
After the migration is finished (or skipped), ADE may ask if you would like to delete any older versions of ADE that exist on your computer. If this option is selected, no content will be lost, only the older version of ADE will be deleted.
Regardless of the options selected, ADE will automatically pick up any authorized user(s). To de-authorize and use a different user name, use the following key combo: Ctrl+Shift+d on Windows and Cmd+Shift+d on Mac.
Vendor ID Authorization
ADE 2.0 supports both Adobe ID and Vendor ID accounts. When you activate ADE, you can see a list of vendors to choose from. After you select a vendor, you can enter the login information and click the “Authorize” button.
If there are multiple users authorized at the same time, the one that was originally authorized will be selected as the default user. To change the default user, you can go to Help -> Authorization information and then select “Change Default ID”. At this point you will be presented with a list of the currently active users to choose from.
Join account support
When you try to open a book that was previously downloaded by someone else, you will be presented with a dialog asking you to provide the original ID the book was fulfilled with. Upon completion of this process, both users will be active on the same computer. As a result books fulfilled by either of the users will be readable on the computer.
When fulfilling a book with both users activated, the book will be fulfilled to the default user. To select the default user, please refer to the previous section.
