READynamic™, Branding, and You

READynamic is an exciting eReading solution with value for educational and corporate opportunities, and much more. This is available to you through product licensing and branding. As it comes “out of the box,” there are numerous desirable features including browser reading, offline reading in mobile clients, support for various document types, and media overlays to name a few. These features fit the needs of a wide array of organizations, libraries, schools, and students. When you as a customer decide to license READynamic, Datalogics Developer Support will work with your customer representatives to make this product your own through branding. Branding efforts will vary depending on your company’s needs, but often involves acquiring branded assets like updating the product name, icons, logos, and specified colors.

More in depth branding efforts can involve implementing Open Authorization (OAuth) to allow third-party account authorization, and even include different geographical language targets by utilizing one of the existing compatible languages or updating the translation available to incorporate a language that is new to READynamic. Each of these more in-depth branding efforts are examples from a current READynamic customer’s implementation.

What is even greater about this product is the ability to request enhancements to the overall product and customization specific to your individual use cases. If you have an idea to make READynamic work better for your customers, we would welcome you to share these ideas with us; our eBook Product Management would love to hear from you to stay as current as possible with real-market demands. An enhancement request for new or improved functionality would then be reviewed by our Sales and Product Management teams. From there, it has the possibility to be added to the product roadmap, and consequently rolled into the READynamic product. A customization is a specific request to modify or add a feature which furthers your utilization of the product for your own customers.

An example of a recent enhancement includes modifying the Audio Playback feature in books that support embedded audio. The current implementation allows for users to select text with embedded audio to enable automatic playback or use the Audio Control Menu to start playback as well. This feature allows dynamic embedded audio content in READynamic to be supported which is vital for accessibility, (foreign) language learning and pronunciation, musical instruction, and endless other learning possibilities. Supporting embedded content such as audio is a changing field and to keep up with handling it better, we have implemented a customer’s enhancement request by allowing a user to toggle on and off their interactivity with the embedded audio and the rest of the UI. When the audio toggle button is on, a user will be able to select text at varying points on the rendered page to start the audio in any desired location. When the audio toggle button is off, the user can still have the audio playing, but can select an area of text to highlight, add a comment, or allow for an accidental screen tap without losing the audio’s place. This allows an end user flexibility to engage with the embedded content in a variety of ways.

Another customer example is a customization request to remove the Sign Up link on a customer’s login page. The customer this was implemented for uses OAuth for handling login, and so did not need or want users to sign up on their own. After working together, we came up with a solution where the Sign Up option was disabled in their production environment. One of our goals to support market demands is to make many of the exciting features in READynamic configurable to more readily suit your diverse needs and those of other customers. A last example of a customization request that does just that is the ability to configure text copying. Currently, READynamic allows copying to be enabled or disabled. We implemented support to improve this feature by restricting copy to a character limit.
You asked and we listened: upcoming production releases of READynamic plan to contain some of these enhancement and configurable customization requests including the audio toggle button and the text copy character limit. Once released, they will be available to you to demo and implement in your own branding of READynamic. Interested in what a branded READynamic could do to meet your customers’ or users’ needs? Please get in touch with us – we look forward to working with you and answering your questions.
